Years of being a mother and a nurturer had taken away some of my identity. When I finally turned to exercise to reinvent myself, I discovered that my thoughts were getting in the way of my progress.

My name is Heidi Michaels.

Before, during and after my three children were born — and while I also raised my two step kids — I exercised and worked out. But when I hit 40, it was much more difficult because of the challenges and time-consuming aspects of parenting.

Tired of spending time and money on everyone but myself, I signed up for personal training sessions and began to realize the toll of ignoring myself had taken on me.

While the price of not exercising for years was detrimental in many ways, I also discovered how quickly I was able to bounce back. I was more confident, had better self-esteem, and my clothes fit better. In fact, I was so strong that I could even do more push-ups than my son! In addition, my vital statistics improved tremendously, I slept better, and I had more energy! The personal training also helped me rediscover my inner athlete, which is why I decided to sign up for my first triathlon.

But that led to unexpected roadblocks that I had been ignoring my whole life; phobias and anxiety that I had harbored and never confronted, in particular, my fear of water.

The Power of the Mind

My water phobias and anxiety had stopped me in my tracks. It took three tries to successfully complete a triathlon after addressing my fears and teaching myself sports psychology techniques. I discovered that my mental strength was much more important than my physical strength.

The realization that success came with the combination of mental and physical training made a light bulb go off in my head.  After some soul searching, I decided to dedicate myself to life coaching so that I could help others find their own direction, balance and focus in life.
